What a unique time to be apart of Gods work among the Bassari people. The impact that this family organized mission in partnership with the personal friendships we have made at home in Canada and abroad have made all of this possible.
The people of Senegal and Guinea along with this missions work can be difficult for me to express in words but has a truth that I have seen firsthand, time and again. Big things are happening in these new Bassari Territory areas specifically in Guinea West Africa. To say that the work in Bassari Land is over would be a false statement. We are however entering into a new chapter in this story and we will only be able to look back years from now to be able to see the whole picture and how the God given gifts of this generation and the previous ones chose to work together and play out their roles to further the Kingdom.
We are currently pressing further and further into Guinea and by invitation to other un-reached Bassari villages.
The difference today compared to sixty years ago when this all started is that now the Bassari themselves are taking up the torch. To put it plainly, the previous generations of Bassari Christians, their children and grandchildren from some of the first evangelized areas are now taking up the call and ministering to their own people on these new frontiers.
Decades of Gods work coming to fruition, what an exciting time!
The Bassari Mission, working in both Senegal and Guinea currently support six Bassari Mission Schools with ten Bassari pastors and children's teachers along with ongoing support to all previous friendships both spiritually and financially. That quite literally translates into hundreds of both children and adults receiving the message of Jesus Christ along with a private education on all subjects government regulated that they would otherwise not have.
I wish that I had more eloquence to describe the impact that this work has on tribe of people who receive the word of God by their invitation, for there could be no other way.
John 6:44
For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up.
Bellow is written Joe's last words on this website. I find it absolutely extraordinary that Joe would update this website even during such a difficult time for him and his family.
I am in a hospice with stage 4 cancer so I cannot proceed with this website. If the Lord heals me I will......if He takes me home, the website will remain as it is....incomplete.
God bless you.
Get to know Him.
Joe
If you are unsure of how Joe Stanley's story ended he sadly passed away on May 16,2020 to be happily welcomed home to the waiting arms of his heavenly Father. Witnessing Joe's faith over the past few years both on a trip we took together with Joe's brother Jimmy and Joe's son Jacob, as well as home in Canada through his cancer diagnosis has been and honor. There can be no doubt to me as to where his faith lay and his ultimate destination.
While Joe was in the hospital and then later in hospice he kept asking all of us if there was someone that would take over and look after this website should he pass away.
What a daunting task, I thought and made sure not to take it upon myself to volunteer whenever he asked in person.
I have recently had a change of heart, perhaps it's God's will working on my heart and showing me that although completely computer illiterate the least I could do is give this a shot and take up what Joe started through this website.
Please bear with me as I navigate these foreign waters and attempt to keep this site up to date in loving memory of Joseph Stanley.
Sincerely,
Jesse DeLarge
For more information and a detailed account on how God has been working with the Bassari check out the new book,
A Life in the Gap, Pastor James Cambell Stanley and his family legacy of missions in Africa. The book goes into greater detail on the common misconceptions associated with how missions work can sometimes be perceived.
Through this book I hope that Gods work among the Bassari is made evident to all as it was made evident to me, and as Pastor Stanley would say, "....and we give You(God) all the glory, in Jesus name, amen!"

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
